Where winters are milder (like our area) elephant garlic is planted from October through January.

Elephant garlic planted in spring may only produce a single round instead of cloves.

Elephant garlic will make the largest bulbs in fertile soil with lots of organic matter, so amend your soil as nessesary.

Break the bulbs into individual cloves and plant 12" apart in rows that are 3' apart. Plant them 4-6" deep.

Fertilize in spring with a little chicken manure and a slow release organic fertilizer like cottonseed meal or Cal Organic 7-5-7.

Break flower stalks off when they are 8-10" tall. Harvest is usually June-July.
