Product Description

Hockett is a rough-awned two-rowed dry-land malting barley that “heads” four days earlier than Harrington. In addition, Hockett retains plump characteristics, test weight, and lower grain protein percentage in dry-land farming much better than Harrington.  It has also produced one-and-a-half times more malting barley grain than Metcalfe (an older Canadian two-row variety). As one can see, this relatively new two-row is geared toward producers in the drier regions, but is susceptible to lodging and stripe rust, so is not a good variety under irrigation farming.

Planting Rates:
Dry-land: 60-70 lbs/acre (1/4lb./100 sq.ft.)
Irrigated: 90-100 lbs/acre (1/3 lb./100 sq.ft.)

Harvest Rates:
Dry-land: 60 bushels/acre
Irrigated: 100 bushels/acre
